Filters are available in a 3-pack and should be changed every 2 to 4 weeks for maximum water freshness. As expected Feb 10, 2010 These do just what they say, fit well in the fountain, and actually last a bit longer than the specified change out interval.

I have a long hair cat - like persian cat long hair but not persian - he doesn't get matts. I've had problems in the past with other pet fountains where the pump ends up getting clogged up with his fur. I have not had this problem with this unit - it is my first Drinkwell product and I'm very happy with it.

My cat is happier Dec 05, 2009 Foxy is now about ten years old, and since I have been her person she has chosen to drink only from a faucet with running water. Only desperation would allow her to drink from a bowl! Since I bought the Drinkwell fountain she, apparently, is drinking far more than she ever did before, and she accepted the new fountain very quickly;I refused to turn on the bathroom faucet for her, thus she soon discovered her private "spring". She has become a happier, more playful and relaxed cat, so she probably wasn't drinking enough water before the Drinkwell came into her life.
Her housemate doesn't use it, which is fine with her.
The thought of cleaning this thing out every week was daunting, however I found it to be a snap. Ten minutes a week, tops. This is a good piece of equipment. Thank you.
