Weighing is great! Jun 17, 2010 After reading several reviews, I decided to go with this model and am glad I did. It is easy to read, the tare feature holds even when off or powers down. This is the first I have converted my baking to weight instead of volume and it is much easier to do. No messy measuring, just add to your container until you hit the right weight! Top removes for easy cleaning, it is light yet sturdy. Be sure to purchase any scale with the AC adapter, no worries of dead batteries during a busy day of baking. Highly recommend this work horse!

Escali Scales Dec 14, 2009 They're just what I needed to weight bread dough so my loaves are more uniform in size.

Why to get this instead of a cheaper scale Dec 05, 2009 I just got this scale and I like it.
I had a cheaper digital scale, and it was annoying in some ways that the Escali Alimento has fixed.
The cheaper scale didn't have an AC adapter. You had to use batteries, and it's annoying when they run low in the middle of weighing, having to recharge them, etc. It shut off after 3 minutes of non-use, and that causes problems. Sometimes I would spend too long chopping veg's or have to do something else, and it would turn off and lose the weight. I had to touch the scale now and then to keep it from shutting off. Having to cater to the vagaries of an appliance isn't fun. I bought the Escali Alimento with the AC adapter, and it turns off only when YOU are finished using it and you turn it off. If you're using batteries it has an automatic shutoff.
The Escali Alimento gives you a choice of ounces, pounds and ounces, digital pounds and grams. Which is nice, because you don't have to use a calculator to convert pounds and ounces to digital pounds, etc. My cheaper scale had fewer options for the weight units.
The weighing plate on the Escali Alimento is detachable. So you can take it off to clean it. With my cheaper scale, the weighing area didn't come off, I risked getting water into the interior of the scale. This is maybe why it starting acting weird after a while. So a scale with a detachable plate will tend to live longer.
The Escali Alimento has covered buttons. So food or liquids aren't going to get in around the spaces around the buttons, and maybe damage the scale. My cheaper scale didn't have covered buttons.
So this is why you may want to get a higher-end scale, and buy online, because local stores have cheaper scales.
The only negative I can see about the Escali Alimento is that the body of the scale is covered by a grey plastic shell, which is obviously trying to look like metal and obviously isn't. So it doesn't look as nice as it could.

Very Functional Aug 07, 2009 Very easy to use, one button push and you are set to go. The digital readout is so much better than the spring scale I previously owned.
Also, this scale is far more accurate. Good quality even though the housing is plastic. Well worth the extra money.

better than the last one but still concerned about the faceplate disintegrating. Jul 08, 2009 I use this little scale for scaling breads, measuring baking ingredients and such. The last similar model Escali I had was fine until the plastic covering on the buttons wore out. That's why I got another. This was the only brand I could find that has the capacity and power cord option-which I need. This is a slightly different model. Since I already had the power cord I didn't need to get another-and that might be a good thing because this model stays on until I shut it off-that could run into a lot of batteries if I were using them. It also retains the last form of measure after being shut off which can be handy-or not- depending on what one is doing. I would give this scale five stars but since it still has the same sort of flimsy button covers I expect it to wear out within two years like the last one. I still can use the old one but it is a chore to get the buttons to work. When I first noticed the buttons were wearing out it was under warranty but I was unable to get any response from the manufacturer and was considering going to a new company. I didn't order that one thru Amazon so maybe if this happens again I can expect different results-I hope...
